Senior global biopharmaceutical and biotechnology executive Louis Bianco co-founded CTI Biopharma in 1991, where he worked as a strategic leader for 26 years. Louis Bianco is very engaged in charitable institutions, being a past chairman and member of the Washington chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS).
The NMSS was founded with the mission to end MS and help people affected by the disease live their best lives. The society does this work by funding cutting-edge research, collaborating with other MS organizations worldwide, offering resources to people with MS and their families, and more. The NMSS has a partnership with the Wellness Research Group, which has recently published a study with diet strategies for people affected by MS.
The diet study was driven by a group of researchers specialized in MS and diet-related research, with the help of a person living with MS. The study, by Dr. Kathryn Fitzgerald, Dr. Ellen Mowry, and colleagues, was published in January 2020 in the journal MS & Related Disorders.
Among the recommendations discussed by the group based on recent ongoing diet studies is that significant others must help with diet implementation at home, and that the diet plan should start with an education session led by a nutritionist. It is also recommended that people who already cook have some flexibility with the diet strategy. In contrast, those who do not cook must have access to highly specific guidance to decrease the chances of anxiety, depression, and fatigue.
